@aprilmdesigns As for charging the client for inks, it's a judgement you need to make based on what you think their reaction will be, whether you'll get more work etc. If you can, I think it's best to add a bit onto a quote to cover materials, or specify any materials will be added to the cost.

@aprilmdesigns ...or on your prints, if you've matched the CMYK values the color should be accurate. Then get the client to get their printer to run a proof, that way you'll get a good idea of the final color. If it is to be printed with spot colors match to the spot Pantone colors instead of CMYK.

@aprilmdesigns ...I would think most likely it will be CMYK. You really need a solid to process Pantone swatch book, then if you're matching from fabric, match to CMYK versions of Pantone colors, not the spot colors. Go by the Pantone CMYK specs and don't worry what it looks like on screen....

@aprilmdesigns Hi April, This is a long reply, so I'm going to have to split it. Color matching is so difficult, if you're doing test prints on an inkjet there are too many variables which can affect the print. First you need to know if the job is to be printed in spot colors or CMYK process....

@jane Hi Jane, I think it's solved , I found "Save Preview Picture', unchecked it and now my client isn't getting the huge file sizes. I can't see the purpose of that option, specially as it has a different effect in other versions. That's the last time I take on a Word job. Thanks for your help.

@curtismchale Hi Curtis, thanks, if I was starting again I would try that, but I've got around 20 different forms already set up. I think I may have solved the problem now, I needed to uncheck "Save Preview Picture". But that only seems to have any affect the file size in Word 2003 and earlier.

Thanks again Jane, I think that's problem solved, I had only tried it on more recent versions of Word - 2004 onward. That's probably why I couldn't replicate their problem. I think they are using an old Word, doubly good as the problem is theirs, not mine. Al

@jane Thanks so much for taking the time to look at the files. It's just so strange, I've tried 3 different Macs and a PC and each time I've saved it's been a small file (350k) I even opened the client's 5 meg file and resaved it with no changes and it went down to 350k. :(

I need some advice please. I've created a series of forms in Word and supplied them as templates. Client fills in the fields and emails them. The templates are about 350k but when the client saves them the docs become 5 meg. If I open and resave on my Mac they go back to the 350k. Any ideas?

@marieoso Thanks Marie, sorry I didn't reply sooner, struggling to keep on top of things at present, gone from having hardly any work to being snowed under. Hope all is good with you too.
